Default Plants For Winter Colour

My pots and hanging baskets are finished now. Are there any plants I could buy for the pots to give some colour or greenery for over the winter time?

It's got to be Pansies. That's what we put in the Hanging baskets and tubs in the pub I work in. It's what the local Plantsman suggest. I don't use baskets/containers round the house during the Winter, I just hibernate

Do you know if there is anything else I could plant with the pansies for contrast?

stinging nettles .... only joking.

it depends what you want really. you could do some winter flowering heathers, variagted Ivy under plant with some mini daffs ( Minnow, jetfire, Jack snipe or Tete a tete), Crocus, Hyacynths. and maybe a skimmia - nice red berries and you get to plant it in the garden whan you've finished in spring

My Mum always had a pot of Hyacinths in the house at Christmas, so that's why I asked.

Lesley, you can get indoor and outdoor Hycianths. The indooe ones are treated but the rest are suitable for planting outside. I have some planted outside about 10 years now and they are still doing fine.

Lesley, just wondering if you got your hysianths yet. I was in B&Q yesterday and they have both the indoor and outdoor ones if you are still looking for them.
