Default The lawns is improving - but could do better

Guys and Gals

Not sure where to post this, but seems to be an appropriate section.

My lawn is about 10-years old and the condition was getting increasingly bad. As I have just bought a tiller for the allotment I got the scarifier as well.

The initial shock of using the scarifier was huge - the amount of thatch that was taken out was tremendous and the lawn looked like a battlefield .

However, the improvement over the last few weeks has been incredible, but I'm sure it can be improved upon.

So my questions

1 What would you recommend as a weed /feed
2 Are there any lesser known feeds out there (less advertised then the better known brands) to green it up. - special brews ????
3 The lawn was initially a narrow leaf grass - but now gone to broad leaf - will it revert to its intial type or is that it forever.

Thanks in advance

George

Hello templebell, sounds like my school reports - but could do better!
I am not sure what you mean when you say broadleaf grass (i,m no expert) but i used Westland Feed, Weed and Moss Killer a few weeks ago and the results were pretty good, grass has gone a lush green, a bit patchy, it came in a 5 litre container/spreader all in one so probably spread a bit erratically, would have been better if i had a proper seed spreader, but a good result just the same, cost euro 15.00 her so about 12 quid for a medium sized lawn (100 square meters)

Thanks for the reply, been using Westland for a while and it pretty good, but thought I'd ask if for recommendations. Broad leaf - difficult to describe, but wider leaf than it was when turfed.

Trouble with the granualr type is my spreader worked for a few times and then just doesn't spread now - had it apart and cleaned it - doesn't make a difference. I think it's was another brand so could be the holes are not the correct diameter. How did you spread yours?

templebell,

The 5 litre container it came in was also a spreader it had a kind of broad shute that flipped up on the top of the plastic container and spread the granules around as you walked across lawn, but it was a bit patchy afterwards - must get a proper spreader i think.

Hammer,

Guess that the container is the technical hand throwing method I use - I need to look around the web for a good spreader
