I have a shady area, near to a 6 foot fence, which only gets the sun in the evening, and next year, I would like to plant a variety of perennials and annuals along a width of about 3 meters, suited for shade, it is clay, but not heavy, as it has had grit added to it a couple of years ago. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

I'm glad you asked this Runnerbean. I have the same problem in my garden. I have an empty flower bed against a wall that only gets a little sun in the mornings. The rest of the day it is shaded by the wall. I'm looking for something suitable to plant there. All suggestions very welcome.

docks, twitch & nettles ...... they'll grow anywhere
![]() Variagated Ivy will go in there & brighten the place up if you get something like goldheart, Tree ferns or you could have a look around your local woodlands & see what wild flowers grow there and have a small woodland bed

I've got a hardy geranuim that is planted behind my shed and is in the shade for most of the day and its on clay. It has spread and filled the area nicely. Unfortunately I don't know what type it is. I will try and take a picute and hope someone will be able to identify it. It has small pink/purple flowers and is one of the first plants to flower in spring.
