Default wild plums??

Hi, i have recently discovered that i have a hugse amount of wild plum bushes ? trees in my garden. (just moved here in May)

I just want to know when do they usually ripen and when should i remove them. I have a lot of wildlife and birds here. So, i want to make sure the birds etc dont eat them all LOL.

What time of year do they usally ripen.

Also, i think i may have rosehip too, BUT there are 2 different kinds. One is smaller than the other. I have been trying to identify it, but without much luck....dont want to eat something that i dont know for sure what it is, so how can i tell if it is rosehip.

Thank you
Finnster

Thumbs up plums and hips..

Hi there Wow how lucky ru?? I would love to have wild plums in my back yard.. We have had our lotty now for around 7 mnths and just planted a lil Victoria plum tree and she is growing strong.. despite the harsh weather.. But we also know where to get hold of the wild plums that you speak of.. we collected about 35 lbs of them last August/Sep time depend on how they are ripening. we made tones of jam and fruit in syrup and just ate them too.. You are right about there being 2 kinds of hips and as far as I know you can use both of them.. BUT I TEND TO STICK TO THE SMALLER ONES I made rose hip syrup for the 1st time last year and it was really good . I will be doing it again this year too.. good luck with all you do..

Regards Potty

Hi, and than you for our reply

I waited a long time to get a reply from this.
I did make some jam, but it was like a brick. I dont know what went wrong, but will be trying agin this year. My other jams worked out, so i maybe just need to experiment with these.

anyway, thanks again for taking the time to reply.
