Even the shop bought, fresh porcini's can have maggots in. One reason why you normally buy them dried over here.

Well, we took the g-daughter for a walk in the forest yesterday and only came back with 3 ceps and a couple of Bluewits. Caitlyn was happy we found anything but usually, we would have had a basketfull. As had been said before all down to a dry August.

As small children we used to go to a specific grazing field, particularly on a misty september morning. It was a special treat to bring back our finds to have for breakfast. I have just ordered some spawn from express gardening on the net, only to discover they are just up the road from me in Chelmsford.

Well, it looks like it might be better this year. Quite a lot of Fungi showing it's heads. Nothing edible yet but maybe at the end of the month

Default Wild mushroom picking on Wimbledon Common

I recently went foraging on Wimbledon Common for wild mushrooms but only managed a handful.... I've posted the forage experince on my blog: The Mind's Ramblings of a Food Flunky, and created a gorgeous Mushroom and Goats Cheese Pasty Recipe with the spoils aswell.

I tried to document the photographs here!!!

I've also just posted a fab stuffed courgette flower recipe on the blog.

Others have also submitted other Courgette Recipes, Mushroom Recipes and there's also a cracking Mixed Berry (Strawberry & Raspberry) Jam recipe.

I'd love to hear what you think?!

I'm in SW Devon myself, and I'm often out in the country walking my dog - can't say I've seen many mushrooms, but then again I have not really been looking

First up I should say I'm loving the search function on this site! This is the 3rd or 4th time I've used it to find stuff and it's really handy.

Back OT, I'm giving the plugs a go this year, they're not cheap, but if they work it'll be great! Worth a punt just for the adventure...

Will post up progress as it comes.

Whoops!

It wasn't until after posting I saw this is in the 'Wild and Free' section.

Will post any updates in the kitchen garden spot.

Hi Ginger, please post any updates about the mushroom plugs in this section. (Start a new thread - please!!) I'm really interested as I love mushrooms but I have heard very poor reviews about the plugs.

Hey,
You can buy some "mushroom seeds" (or something like that, I don't know the exact name..), and you can "plant" them in your garden. I mean, if you have trees. Then you don't have to worry about if its poisonus, or not.

I didn't try it, but maybe someone here did?
