Default Pear Tree

Whilst on holiday last week our pear tree, which we guess is quite old, blew over in the wind we had in the south east

I'm wondering why it blew over? and now i've staked it back upright if it's going to survive?

It's looking a little limp and lost loads of fruit

It seems the roots are just above the surface and thats why it went over, just wondering if thats common for fruit trees or mainly pear trees?

Matt

It depends on whether you grew the pear tree from a seed or not Matt. Pear trees grown from a seed are naturally deep rooted, but no guarantee on fruiting abilities. Pear trees that you buy from a nursery are normally grafted on to a quince root stock and quince are a shallow rooted tree.
