Default Apple,plum pear trees 3.99

Lidl have stocks of fruit trees at 3.99 each

Choice of Bramley Apple, Beurre Stella Cherry, Hardy Pear, Victoria Plum, Jonagold Apple, Cox’s Orange Pippin, Opal Plum and more

Height (m): 1.2 - 1.7
Age (yrs): 1 - 2
Price per item 3.99

I think it is recommended that they are in full sun. Garden is west facing and the space the space I have that I could put a few of these in is on a border against the south side fence so they would get some some sun but not full sun.

Any thoughts on whether I should give them a go?

At that price you have nothing to lose really but some of the varieties will need pollinating partners. Jonagold and Bramley are triploid varieties and need two different pollinating partners, Cox's, Hardy Pear, Victoria Plum, Opal Plum and Stella Cherry are self fertile but all give a better crop with a pollinating partner.

Didn't spot the need for pollinating partners.......

Bought a Bramley and Jonagold - already have a dual golden delicious and Sunset - so hopefully will get something from them?

Also put in a pear and a plum tree

Will see how they go..........

There is an extremely long list of pollinating partners for Bramley and Jonagold apple trees. Both Golden Delicious and Sunset are pollinating partners for the Bramley and Sunset is a partner for the Jonagold tree. Bees will travel miles for pollen so it's very likely that other apple trees in the neighbourhood will be suitable aswell. I reckon you can look forward to some lovely fruit for years to come!

Bramleys need two other apple trees nearby that flower at the same time.
My bramley is 20 years old and quite alone in my garden. It fruits well, although their is a tendency to bienial bearing- sometimes giving a magnificent harvest at the expense of the following year's harvest.

Although the tree is alone in my garden, Neighbours on both sides have apple trees too, so I'm OK. If you have room for just one apple tree, why not try to talk your neighbours into planting one in their garden. It should not be difficult at that price.

Thanks for the Lidl information. I might just go get a plum tre myself !

Morrisons is where I bought loads of fruit trees from this year at 4.99 a piece which I thought was a great price. I happened to go grocery shopping just as they had restocked the plants section Went in for groceries and came out with six fruit trees
