Default first fruit tree planted

have recently planted an apple tree, but have read that you have to take off all the blossom in the first year ,seems a bit cruel was looking foreward to picking and eating our first crop of juicy apples

Default Dilema!

I've been reading up on fruit generally and seems you should pretty much stop them all from fruiting first season to get them established - they are a long term investment I guess - but still! I think I'll hedge my bets and do a little of both - might be an interesting trial - just have to have 2 of everything! Haven't started tree planting yet (very soon I hope) but I've got various berries in - so fingers crossed!
MBD
PS any tips on siting trees - we have sloping south facing grassland but there is a prevailing SW wind.
