Default fruit trees

Due to an irregular shaped garden I have a small corner which recieves virtually no sun. It seems like a waste of time sowing seeds or putting any small plants there but it seems a shame to waste the space completely so I was thinking about buying a fruit tree from a garden center. If the tree is around four foot tall the top two foot will get sun, it will just be the roots that dont. Is this likely to be successful? If so can anyone recommed a good tree for a total novice please, preferably something other than apple.

Kabij, I would give a Victoria plum a try.
