Question Melons

My second plea for help this evening is Melons? I am growing a canteloupe melon and the plant is gorgeous and doing really well, I brought the seeds from Ebay, risky I know, but very economical and so didn't really have a packet for instructions. I have had loads of flowers, but no fruit as yet. Does anyone know if I should be giving nature a helping hand with pollination or am I being impatient?

Thanks
Hayley

Have you had just male flowers or do you have female ones too? My cantaloupe haven't had any female flowers yet so no melons here either. If you do have female flowers (with a mini melon behind) you could hand-pollinate very gently to make sure.

Hope that helps and good luck with them.

I am going to have to brave the weather in a minute and have a look, from what I can remember the flowers are all male, but further investigation required. There is hope of fruit yet anyway. Thanks shirlthegirl.

Hi,
sorry for this stupid question but I want to know all is that how to identify the ripe and unripe water melon. Indeed there are lots of water melon I have grown up in my farm they also have become of great size but I am still unable to identify which one is ripen and which one is not.

Hi Girdhar, the bottom of the watermelon (where it sits on the ground) should change colour from green to a yellow colour and also if you knock the watermelon it should sound hollow when it is ripe. I hope that helps.
