Default is it too late to plant strawberries now

Hello,

I purchased some small strawberry plants today from the reduced section of my local garden centre.

Is it too late to plant them in the garden now? Can I realistically keep them in post until spring (inside) or have I just wasted my money?

Thanks in anticipation

It's very late, but I would plant them out and hope for the best. You might get some fruit in the next few weeks, and they should come up next year.

September was always the traditional time to plant out Strawberry runners, but not to crop in that year, in fact the old boy who gave me my first strawberry runners many years ago said don't let them fruit in the first year after planting let them make strong plants and crop in the second year.
