Default Strawberries

I had some strawberries growing in pots last year, they haven't produced well. Today I was pulling them out and preparing soil for this year, to plant new plants as I thought maybe they did not bear much fruit due to being old plants.
And I found little white maggots in the soil that was in those pots, now I wonder are they good guys or bad guys? Because we want some worms in soil don't we?

Hi Riversava, these are bad guys - they sound like vine weevil grubs. I would repot your strawberry plants each year and make sure that the roots are free from eggs and grubs.

Hi Lesley,
Thanks for your reply. I shall change compost and buy new plants just to be on the safe side.
