Oh wow that's excellent! I have got some growing but the fruit is still very small and green.

Can I ask what may be a silly question (that has just had me start doubting the whole name given to the Strawberry) but it looks like there is straw in amongst the plants. Was this to protect from frost?

I think it's to protect the fruit from touching the ground and rotting...another thing I should think about!

Oooh perhaps I should do this with mine. I have some hay - that will do, don't you think?

I looked in wilkinson today, and only saw some chicken wire type stuff.....do you have to make something yourself out of that kind of material, or can you buy something already appropriate for the job?

Too late it's gone to the birds! This morning some naughty bird or birds polished off half of the ripening strawberry before I came down for breakfast...After breakfast I went out to take a picture of the half eaten fruit and it was gone, vanished no trace except for a piece of the stalk on the ground

Oh no!! The birds are devils.

I just use a roll of green garden netting to throw over the plants and weigh it down with bricks or something to stop it blowing away.

Well at least my 4 year old has a good story to tell, she was the one that discovered the strawberry turning red, then found it half eaten and then found it gone b haha strawberry nets need to be sorted pretty soon.

Aw I do miss having a cat, great company when you're out in the garden especially.
