Pumpkin Help???

Ok not sure if I am posting in the right area....But just in a need of alittle help, I desided for the frist time ever I would grow Connecticut Field pumpkins.....They seem to be growing good but I noticed near the bottiom by thr roots they are getting really dark green, Is this sopsed to happion?? The plants look and are growing really healthy....Well the hole plant get darker as they grow?? Please if anyone can help let me know.
