Default Hows your Strawberrys this year 2010

I've had 12

This is the second year with our 7 pot grower, the first year we was close to 100

Maybe it was the harsh winter we had? seems like i'm getting more green growth than flowers

How are you strawberry growers getting on this year?

Hi Matt,

I bought two strawberry plants this year and an alpine strawberry plant.

We haven't had very many, maybe about 30 ordinary and 20 alpine. The ordinary ones aren't the best tasting. I'm going to plant them out into larger planters for next year as they are just in pots.

My neighbours are in Italy for a month and their strawberries are thriving and are so sweet so I'm pinching them as I expect the birds will get them if I don't and I feed the birds in return

Hi Lisa, ask your neighbours for some strawberry runners when they return so that you can grow the same variety as theirs next year.

Maybe it wasn't the winter that ruined my strawberrys, is there still snow up north

So if you've had 50 in your first year, with my calculations you'll end up with 6 next year

LOL, something to look forward to then. Best not eat them all at once, eh.

We'll have to remember this thread for next year to give an update.

I planted some alpines into a hanging basket, haven't had a single strawberry yet :-( there's some flowers - probably about 20 or so and some little strawbs growing, but there's so much greenery I can't believe it - it looks really lush and healthy, but seems to have put all it's effort into growing leaves. This is my first year of growing them so I didn't know what to expect.

We probably had about 30, off 6 plants - so very very little. I've heard that if you keep the plants you can get more the next year. What should I do with the plants? Put in the shed?! They're in containers.

Default Strawberries

My Strawberries are fruiting very well this year in comparison with last year when we had one or two dried up fruts.
So happy days.

And raspberries are doing well, I've been picking them since late June and there are still many fruits to ripen.

Hi Hollie,

I keep mine out all through the winter, they are in pots, or rather in tower. Still exposed to elements, they wither and they grow back in spring time.

Not a strawberry year?...
I've had about 20 from 2 plants not exactly loads, but at least they were tasty.
The 3rd plant refused to fruit anything, it just sent runners all over the place all summer long!
