do they need any special treatment in an english garden? ( i always assumed they would have to be in a glasshouse/ greenhouse) could one grow in a very large tub in a sunny sheltered corner?

Beautiful Little Tom, just beautiful! Peches are my favorite fruit but where I live it's hard to get a tree to survive the winters, so we order boxes from Colorado and they came yesterday. Hope you enjoy. If you need one I've got a great recipe for peach cobbler that's really easy.

Hi all!

Hm, Husker I'd love a recipe for peach cobbler - yes please! A change from peach puree and peach pies!

About growing a peach tree in the UK - I wish I knew Lilith
I'm from Vendee in Western France and that's where my grandparents (proud owners of the peach tree) still live... It's very dry and sandy over there, the main care is daily watering in Spring Summer. I don't think the tree would mind more water sometimes...Regarding the temperatures they're not too different from what I have in Cambs so why not try? (if I had more than a balcony, I would!) But the tree is in a very warm, sheltered position, west facing (it didn't get any protection this winter despite the cold and still did fine, though).

I don't know if these details help you but hopefully, yes, a little bit!

Cheers,

Sophie aka Tom
