I have recently moved on to my fathers small holding as he is finding it difficult to deal with the amount of land. We have 5 apple trees in a small orchard, I am not sure of the varieties, all I know is that they are around twelve years old and they flower in April/May. After flowering nothing seems to happen, this year we had one apple, that quickly dropped off soon after appearing. I am unsure why this is as I am only a beginner. I was wondering whether anyone has any idea why this is, how to solve it and so on?
The soil does not drain very well where they are placed, but they have good light and plenty of space. Thankyou, any advice useful =] |

As a breeder we tell folks only feed one at a time. Say carrots an inch chunk once a week for a month then and 1/8 of in slice of apple once a week for a month. Check to see how their poop is weather you notice a change in texture or color. If you do than discontinue feeding them. Usually your pellets have all they really need.

Just make sure how old are your apple trees, because everything which you share with us seems Ok. If they are not old enough, just continue to fertilize them and supply them with enough water. You will soon or later harvest the result. Fertilize them more often than usual to make sure that at least this part of the growing process is fine.

When were they last pruned back, It could be worth getting a specialist to trim them back, this may not help this year but should improve next years crop. Only a guess though
