Blackcurrants are tolerant of most soil types,provided they are well drained and at least 15"in depth with plenty of added compost or manure,suitable for very large tubs eg.half barrels,they prefer sun out of strong winds.

Well I'm not too sure about Ph values, what I do know is cucumbers love natural fertilizer. I grew these many years ago, and knew nothing about the "How". What I did was to dig a trench about 1ft deep, then I lined the bottom with about a foot of farmyard manure, which was well rotted.

You need to start them inside early (late march or early april) plant 2 or 3 seeds in a 6" pot using a good quality potting soil (one with perlite and slow release fertilizer is best). leave the strongest seedling and pull out the others (pull carefully, or just cut them off level with the soil).
