Default Vanishing strawberries!

Last night I had 3 just-about-ripe strawberries on my plants. This morning they are gone!! The stalks are there as if someone snipped them off with scissors! They are in a strawberry planter next to the back door.
There has been a squirrel wandering around the garden, could he be the culprit?
Donna
PS I have covered them with mesh this morning!!

Hi Donna, I agree with John, birds absolutely love strawberries (they pinch whole ones!) so netting is essential.

My friend grows strawberries and she netted them with curtain netting but still she says it's a fight with the blackbird which try to get under it.

We tend to use fleece at the critical time so that the blackbirds aren't even aware that they are there....if they can't see them, they don't try any houdini moves to snaffle them.
