Single Stem Apple Tree.

I've got one of these from Van. meuw. It's self-fertile. I've had it since the Spring and I've cut off all the side-shoots (as instructed). Has anyone grown one of these ? I'd like it to be a success as it's my g-daughter's plant. (She's 6 on Thursday)
Any advice gratefully accepted

My partner, calls me an old fart, especially when I have a blonde moment, and they seem to be on the increase,since I became 60 this year, but you're still a youngster. Ha! Ha! Thanks, rb. I just don't seem to be able to find anyone that has grown one of these. I can't believe I'm the only single-stem virgin The site looks really handy.
