Question Dwarf Lemon Meyer

Hi can anyone please give me some advice on my lemon tree please,
Its 15yrs old, we have had it for about 3yrs,
& for the last few months the leafs have been all sticky & so is the tiled floor around it on the ground, what is this stuff (citrus) ??
i feed it with a citrus feed through winter/summer it has always got fruit on it ive never known it not too,
it sits in the conservatory & its heated in there too, i have the doors open on warm sunny days,
its about 3ft high & also i have some huge leafs on it which ive never had theyre about the size of your hand incl fingers, is this normal for the leafs to be that size?

Hi Debbie! Welcome to our forum!! Sticky stuff on the leaves is almost certainly caused by some type of aphid. Take a look under the leaves to see if there are any eggs and tiny aphids. Give the leaves a wash to clean them and maybe wash them with diluted washing up liquid to kill any aphids but do not use antibacterial washing up liquid as this will kill off the leaves.

Hi Lesley ty for the warm welcome,
I did wash it with soapy water this morning as it had hundreds to what i could identify in my fruit books as scale?
i removed hundreds of them using a small sponge & ear cotton buds, but i know theres still some tiny ones left but hard to get to, i worked at it for 2 hours, didnt see anything else on the tree,
could scale be the cause of the leafs being so sticky?
& why are some of the leafs so big? is this due to overfeeding?, i feed about once a month
sorry for all the questions, but im not sure whats happening to it,
none of the leaves are fallen off, as soon as i washed the leafs the stickyness came through within mins of the leafs drying

Yes Debbie scale will cause the sticky leaves. I would give the tree another good wash and if the scale still persists then it looks like you will have to spray the tree but do not use a systemic insect killer as this will work it's way into the fruit. The sprays I have found recommended are Vitax Organic 2 in 1 Pest And Disease Control or Bayer Organic Pest Control but you will need to treat again in 10 days to get the eggs that have hatched.

As for feeding, you should feed citrus trees but if my memory serves me right there is a feed for the winter months and a different one for the summer months. I will try and find some info about the large leaves for you.

Google has come up with an answer Debbie. Quite simply large leaves can be a sign that your tree needs more light. As we have just been through the winter with low light levels this would make sense.

more light?
I cant put it anywhere with more light than where it is now in the conservatory, & it never gets dark in there except at night, half the time i wear sunglasses in there even through winter cos it get so bright,
its right in front of the conservatory doors, with no shading, its basically living in a greenhouse..lol
but i think i know what you mean..its wanting those extra sun rays?..well were all wanting them arent we
