The past few weeks are really confusing as here in suffolk we have had sunshine all the way and only 2mm of rain. I have tommies, french beans, sweetcorn all ready to go out as the weather has brought it on early. I am still a bit wary as it could be a suckers gap and as soon as I plant out bang a deep frost. 1st of may and do I risk it as frost has been known in may. do I hang on. I may take the chance. the ground here is also very dry like a dust bowl. when the rain does arrive it will probably hoof it down disruptong all instead of a steady little drizzle. no pleasing some eh. Out of curiosity what is the weather doing in your part of our small world?. good luck to all but keep the fleece handy.

Mid-Norfolk here.
It's been very dry here too. The stream at the end of the garden is ok though. I've got runner beans, dwarf beans, broad beans, spring onions, cut-and-come-again lettuces, peas, beetroot, swiss chard, potatoes and loads of herbs out already. Plus lots of stuff in the cloche hardening off and stuff in the 'greenhouse', including toms (first trusses already showing in form of flower buds) courgettes & summer squashes - also showing first signs of fruiting.. oh, and various chilli plants & sweet peppers I'm keeping some tom plants in the 'greenhouse' that isn't a proper greenhouse over the summer along with the chillies and sweet peppers. I'm hanging back on putting out the courgettes & squashes in case of late frost - but some are getting so big I may have to risk it. What I'm doing is checking my local weather online every day for risk of frost. I use:- Metcheck.com - UK Weather Forecasts - Live Data - Long Range Weather Forecasts Just put in your postcode, click and hey presto, up comes a detailed forecast. As a back-up I also use Wind Map - Britain Observations On this one you click on the part of the map nearest your location to pick up the details I also have material at hand to cover my plants at night if the weather forecast is for below 5C when there's a risk of frost. That way I'm hoping Mother Nature doesn't bite me too hard on the bum... I do also give the plants a good watering with the watering can and a weekly feed. |

it has gone a bit cloudy today but still warm. lovely. ground still dry and I think I will have to risk planting out and keep an eye on the forecast. they are saying there is rain overnight but it quite often misses us. I want to turn some compost in the ground but it's to dry at the mo. still have another look tomorrow. got to plant out as some are getting potbound.
