Could this be Asparagus?

Hi everyone.
I'm staying at an elderly couple's house and they have asked me if this plant that is growing in their garden is asparagus. I've had to say I don't know but I know someone who does Please HELP!

Neither of them remembers ever planting it, but then, they don't remember whose garden it is most of the time. They just enjoy the garden in the hear and now, which is perhaps what we all should do more of.
