Question Hedging/screening

Hi all,
I have today been looking at trees(conifers) on ebay, with the view to create a hedge/screen in certain parts of the gardens here.
My questions are, what size do i buy? they come in all sizes at varying prices, will the taller 1's "establish" more quickly?? "they say they will grow 2-3 foot per year when "established" How long will it take to do this??
Any info, or past experiences to share, on this subject warmly welcomed,,,,, cheers stupo74

Hello. Remember they dont only grow up they grow out as well. And if you trim the side all you get left with and twigs and no greenary. How about a photonia red robin shrub can be a nice hedge, slow growing and cuttings can be taken. All year foliage and nice flowers as well. Regards Marmite.

Hi Stupo,

Marmite has had a lot of experiance with the conifer. But my choice would be Musa Plants, plenty of fruit that you can eat, plenty of shade, you can make mats and a nice summerhouse from their leaves. An all round nice little herb.

Hi Paul, did you sort out the hedging because our neighbour planted some hedging whips a few weeks ago that look great now so I asked him what variety they were. The variety is Hornbeam which can be trimmed as a hedge or left to grow with an ultimate height of about 80 foot (24 metres). They should look really good in your gardens.

Here's a link:-

Smile "Thanks LJ"

Hi Lesley,
I have bought 15 conifers and planted a few to see how they go.
Thanks for the link, i will check them out, they sound like the sort of thing i am after, i want the quickest possible results. I did not spend a fortune on the conifers, (£1.50 each including delivery) so i won't be that bothered if they fail. Thanks again, off to look at the link now, cheers paul.

How much £1.50 each including delivery, how are they arriving in a rolls royce. Do you know how many sweeties we can buy with that. From Sonic Scamp and Spike. We are watching tennis waiting for mum and dad to return from the shops.
