Default General news from me

Hello. Just an update on some of the things that has happened over the last few months. Carrot fly measuring stick = 45.5 inch high. Rooster spuds one tuber = 2lb 4oz ave planted 5 tubers 12lb over all, in containers x 2 and bag x 1 grown. Cabbage Grayhound good taste no, cabbage white or slug/snail damage, BUT they were got at by a small field mouse who eat a ring around the heart so I gave it rat poison as well it would not touch the slug pellets and it would not stay still long enough to hit with anything.Carrotts growing well had a few from thining out tasted nice. Runner beans very good heavy crop 1 draw in freezer full of blanched runners 3/4lb per day 10 plants 5 in container 5 in ground which grew bigger and tasted sweeter. Toms 100 and 1000s fantastic and lives up to name, getting to many neighbours being fed.Matina toms good crop hard skins but excellent for frying backed some to make sauce. Overall well pleased. Sadly Mrs Marmite had a heart attack a few weeks ago, she is making a slow but sure recovery. Thankyou to the member who sent a message 10 days ago it was well recived.Look after yourselfs. Regards from Marmite

Lesley and David T. Thanks for your kind words. I pulled up a parsnip Friday from the old fish pond it was 15 inches long but the top was only 2 inches diameter long thin but very good eating. Will leave the rest in for a few more weeks. Runners still flowering so more beans on the way we are well pleased with crop. Mrs Marmite getting fed up she wants to do some gardening but I do it instead. I do let her make the tea for me. Sonic Scamp and Spike doing well, not getting into any adventures just yet. Hi Marmite, that's good news that Mrs Marmite is keen to help with the garden - give her the seed catalogues to choose what to grow next year. Parsnips are a long term veg and need a long growing season to mature usually about 36 weeks.

Hello.Yes she could but she just wont stop there, I caught her trying to move the containers on the balcony full of spuds. The other day she tried to turn the matterres on our bed. I have to watch her like a hawk. I have been in her situation 3 times. The first one I could not sit, all I wanted to do was get out and back to normal things and WORK. 6 months later I was in cardiac arrest laying on the pavment with my mates doing what they do best. They busted 2 of my ribs but I forgive them. I do not want Mrs Marmite rushing things like I did. regards Marmite

Oh hi Marmite Was reading this thread and want to send good wishes to you and your wife. Hope you are both doing ok. I help out my partner with his garden too which is fairly extensive and can be quite heavy work. When I've had enough I get to make the tea (or bring the drinks down, depending on the time of day) it's a good job for us gals when we're fed up of humphing stuff around or backs are getting sore weeding. Sorry to hear about your ribs, but I guess that can happen. It must have left quite a bruise, did it? Glad you're ok. My toms are still v green, but in Scotland so less heat. Did get good tip on this site about placing banana or apple in with plant, is this true?

Hello Greengirl. I did not have much of a bruise but a bit of a burn mark when the defib was usedwith no gel. When in hospital every cough, sneeze, or if I laughed my ribs hurt. With that in mind all my work colleagues came to my bedside to make me laugh and see me in pain holding my ribcage, they were getting their own back for being a good mate. As for the banana my grandad 40 years ago told me that and if you plant garlic next to roses you wont get green fly. You do lose some of the perfume from the flower. Regards from Marmite

Can appreciate your wife wanting to over do it. As you say, you need to slow her down in her excitement at feeling better. It sounds as if you`ve been through the mill a bit, too. BOTH of you take things sedately.

Hi Marmite, glad to hear about Mrs M. My french beans are just beginning! I hope we get some September sun to egg them on Have you tried putting pennies round and about instead of slug pellets? No comment about the nurses outfit ... Regards.

If you do manage to squeeze into the nurse`s uniform we want pics. Get your wife to put a gusset in the dress for you.

Hi Marmite

Sorry to hear about Mrs marmite. My best wishes to her. Glad to see you've had a reasonably good season with your crops.

Sorry for not replying sooner..not been on for a while and just catching up on the latest news. My computer went 'wacky' again and would not load Windows, but just got it fixed (something to do with the memory). Also, my lovely cat Ollie (see my avatar) passed away a couple of weeks ago..I felt well gutted. Miss him sooooo much.

Had mixed fortunes with my crops. Brilliant Runner Beans, Onions, Cucumbers, Potatoes (2nd earlys), Not bad Beetroots and Carrots, Absolute rubbish Tomatoes. Six plants in the greenhouse..plenty thought I...but no, NOT ONE truss did form. Going back to 'Sungold' next year.

Wishing everyone well.

Smile Glad Your Back

Hi Eddie, "Glad Your Back"
Sorry to hear about "Ollie",It is allways hard to say Goodbye, just as long as there was not too much suffering.
I know someone that has missed you?? Our Mate, Mr Marmite, however,he has been missing again for a few days?? he is head cook and bottle washer, as you are aware that Mrs "M" has not been in the best of health lately.
You have had a mixed season, as far as results go then?? No toms????this year, but plenty of everything else?? i can't believe where the last 4 months have gone, the season has flown by.
Take care of yourself, no doubt we will catch up again soon,,,,cheers paul (stupo).

Hi Guys

Thanks for the 'welcome back.'

Paul (Stupo) - you are not wrong when you say the season has flown by. Mrs Spud and I have just bought some winter Pansies from a local market and we are already planning other things to put in the winter baskets and pots. Don't time fly when you're having fun, as they say (whoever they are).

Marmite - glad Mrs Marmite is on the mend. Fingers crossed for Monday, and hopefully you can book your holiday.

Chat soon. Cheers.
