Default Restaurant In Our Living Room - new culinary TV show on Virgin1

Hello all - Lesley Jay has very kindly allowed me to share the following with you, hope you will find it enjoyable viewing!

Virgin1 turns up the heat with Restaurant In Our Living Room

Starts 24th September at 9pm

Virgin1 unveils hot new series Restaurant In Our Living Room this September, a programme truly designed to tickle your tastebuds. This new concept in competitive dining sees culinary couples going head-to-head to create the ultimate dining experience in their own homes.

However, this is no intimate dinner party – this is dining out credit-crunch style. Couples will be opening their homes to complete strangers but will they decide to cater for 60 diners or just a table of 2? All contestants know is that they have a strict budget and just three days to transform their homes into a fully-functioning restaurant, and it’s really not as easy as it looks! This is dining out with a difference, guests only have to pay what they think the meal is worth and the winning couple is the one which takes the most on the night.

In each episode two pairs of food fanatics are pitted against each other to create the best Restaurant In Our Living Room. The series is inspired by real underground restaurants, or supper clubs, where disillusioned foodies, fed up with over-priced, over-hyped restaurants, are fighting the recession by opening their kitchens to paying customers. Even celebrities are tucking in, with Jo Wood creating her own home restaurant this summer serving customers organic fare straight from her Richmond garden.

Smile "Come Dine With Me" (Take 2)

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse?????? Along comes?????,
"Come Dine With Me" ,,, "Take 2". /// As you all know, everyone, to 1's own, if it rocks your boat, etc, etc.
I wish you good luck in your "Adventures", but alas, I think the chances of me watching the programme, are about as equal, as the chances, of a 1 legged man, winning, a backside kicking competition....... ??????????
All the above said, i do wish you luck,
cheers paul, (stupo)

What do you think about the recent phenomenon of the 'pop-up/underground' restaurant that has been born out of the recession? Has anyone had any experiences dining at one?

I know that there are a lot of them that have popped up around London and would love to give one a try!

As Restaurant In Our Living Room is already recorded and I think the wording you used is that you must either work for the tv company or be part of program makers. You must know the underground restaurant's are not overseen by health or hygiene codes. What about house insurance if that kitchen caught fire the house insurance IS invalid. As for finding one to eat in use a well known search engine. Regards Marmite.

restaurantvirgin1 is obviously a researcher or fixer working for the production company, and is spamming the forum, probably to improve the search engine ranking of the Facebook link in post #1. I'm surprised the forum administrator has allowed this. A downmarket reality TV show about cooking is nothing to do with vegetable gardening.

Hi Paul, I'm sorry you dislike this thread so please let me explain my reason for allowing it. Restaurantvirgin1 is working on behalf of Virgin 1 to promote this programme and she did ask my permission before posting the thread. As Forum Administrator I must be unbiased and fair when deciding whether or not a thread should be allowed to remain or be deleted. Although the programme has nothing to do with vegetable gardening I gave my permission for the thread as the programme is aired at the end of September by which time the main growing season is virtually over, nights are closing in, most people watch the TV in the evenings and alot of people do enjoy reality TV. Also the thread has not interferred with the vegetable gardening forum. As I said I try to be fair, I must take into consideration the fact that not only our members but also guests viewing the forum will have many varied likes and dislikes.

Where spam is concerned, restaurantvirgin1's second post on this thread is in my opinion spam but if I delete that then Marmite's reply will be spoilt.

I hope that explains everything.

No personal criticism of you was intended Lesley, it's your forum and you can allow or disallow anything you want. I was just genuinely surprised at your original decision, given this was clearly PR for a commercial company.

Surely opening an unlicenced, unregulated " restaraunt " is illegal, whether for a television programme or not. And as such, should not be encouraged.
