Question Raspberry canes

How much should I cut them back ?
They are over 8 feet tall and about half an inch thick.
We had a great harvest last summer/autumn but I can't move them anywhere else in my small garden.

Hi there,
Do you know which variety of raspberry you have? Summer and Autumn varieties are treated differently.
Summer varieties fruit on wood produced last year. So last years growth is tied in to wires or posts and will produce fruit this year.
Autumn fruiters are much easier to manage because they will fruit on wood produced this coming year. All you need to do is cut the canes right back to the ground now.
We grow autumn bliss and when we have cut them back we apply a scattering of poultry pellets and mulch all over with wood chippings which helps to retain the moisture. Hope this helps.

I think they are the Autumn variety as they were still producing fruit into December.
Many thanks for your response.
