Hi Gardener, our member Marmite has astro turf in his garden. You can read a bit about his garden on this link.

I think it depends on your situation, where you live, what size garden you have, and ultimately what you are going to use it for. I have false grass down in my front garden, I don't have the time to do much gardening, so it suits me perfectly... I would advise getting some samples, the company I ended up using is Everlawn, they sent out a free sample which is useful to help you decide and they deliver throughout the UK, they even offer an installation service!

Personally, I feel it's such a waste. Wouldn't it be better just to do a quick levelling and then plant something worthwhile for the wildlife, such as some wild flower seeds?

The birds, butterflies and bees will thank you for it. Artificial grass does nothing for them.

I have astro turf as the ground is unsuitable for turf or seed. We are unable to drain the area and its allways boggy (clay) so astro turf was used. No cutting, weeding, just hose to clean. By not having to do the grass cutting and getting rid of the cut grass I am saving waste and time. My time is spent on veg growing . As I am in outer London I have a verid gathering of birds insects and flowers for them. Even a Nuthatch comes in. As we get older we have to compromise with what one can do, so I go for the easy option take care everyone.
