WARNING over possible fake email from taxman(uk)

i know its nothing to do with plants but felt i had to warn other people about this i know where not stupid but heads up is always nice

my son got an email from the uk revenue and customs telling his he was entitled to £268 tax refund he clicked the get started button on the pc he was using lucky it was a library pc and wouldnt let the form be downloaded so came to me and asked if he could use mine to apply for it lucky for him i am not as easily caught out and after doing a trace on the ip address from the email header it said it was sent from ancorage alaska which did not seem right so did a search for the email address which sent it gci.net which again didnt look right after contacting the local office for tax they said
1/they dont send out emails like that without notifying the person
2/they dont deal with a company over there for this type of thing they deal with it
(as far as the person i was speaking tos knowledge) they are looking into it though

i have since sent them a picture of the email as it did look quite good (see below) just the lack of personal info like his name and refrence numbers didnt seem right to me
so all i can think of is scam they was after bank details and other personnel information so please be carefull

yep this scam has been going on for ages now, started when the taxman actually did get it wrong last year and had to pay folk back. however, like you say they never contact people by email....in fact they never ask for your email so they probably don't have it.

I keep getting demands from the US IRS, saying I owe them money, which I don't!! The email is very amateur, & I wonder from which country it originates.
