Default Whats This for?

Whatever it is/does, i'm sure it doesnt work

I guess it's meant to work like a car boot, meaning it should stay open when pushed up? but it keeps shutting

It got a bit warm in the greenhouse yesterday and it would be handy if this thing worked

What is it? and where can I get one from

Matt

Just googled ' automatic cylinder window opener' and I think your right

So it should open automatically, thats handy, shame it doesn't work and they now look a bit more modern than the one we have!

Thanks Lesley Jay, I'll now know a little more when I go to the garden center and ask

Thankyou

this is definitely an automatic window opener the arm in the picture is the pusher arm that opens the window inside the aluminum body is a wax filled cylinder that expands with heat and opens the window if it does not work check that
the end of the wax cylinder revolves to allow the window to open sooner the joints are free to revolve

if it is very old then all the wax may have gone and it is useless just remove the springs and then you can open the window

Thanks Malcolm

Everything seems free on the joints so I guess the wax in the cylinder is shot

The window can be opened but I have to wedge a piece of wood to keep it open

Would a garden center sell automatic window openers? or are there any greenhouse specialists in southend, essex

Many Thanks

Matt

You can purchase new filler for the cylinder to make it operate again. Go online to any greenhouse supply company to find it. If the UK does not have it, go to US suppliers. The US gets most of it's GH's from Europe tho.
