Last year I grew some chilli peppers in the g/h. Trouble is a very small % of the seeds germinated about 1 in 4. Temp 60/70f and i use a good seed compost. I'm told c/p seeds are prone to rot so I keep the compost just damp. Am I doing, not doing something wrong.

hi kersham
i must say i'm not a very good gardener but my success rate is about 4out of 5 i'[ve tried soaking them for a few day's and also just planting straight out of the chilli and it's still about the same ,once i've put seed in compost sieve a little compost over the seed ,i soak from the bottom when wet through cover with a plastic pot or film and they seem to come up in a week or two i do this on k/window sill and the door is open all the time hope this helps pete |

Hi both,
The best way for good results with chilli seeds, is to keep constant temps throughout the germination period. The greenhouse might maintain the germination temps during the day, but what about at night?? A cheap heated propogator (10-15 quid) would probably give better germination rates as the temp will not drop at night, hope this helps,,,,, cheers stupo74 |
