Default Building a green house!

Hi has anyone got any experience in building their own greenhouse.

I have got a small area that is a nice size for a greenhouse but due to the shape and size i would have to do it my self.

Would making the whole thing from wood and plastic be better like a mini glass house or as its going to be near a wall to make that side of all wood then paint it white to reflect the light.

Thanks for all the advice.

hi
i did make some sketches once for a similar project,
i was going to make a timber frame, devided into sections
big enough to hold old double glazing units (usually cheap 2nd hand).
then use polycarbonate sheets for the roof.

what size and shape are you thinking of?
could you use the wall as one end of it?

I couldnt use the wall because i would be looking to be able to move it when i move so id like four walls and 1metre in width by about 3metres roughly i keep meaning to draw up some sketches but just havent got round to it.

id draw it first, then think about how i could improve it!
id also put glass on every side, in case you do move to a garden
that allows it.
the extra light can only be a good thing.

Thats what i was thinking draw it, improve it and then make it.

It would be better to do all four sides with glass/plastic and what would be best angled or flat roof.

One of our members, Scarecrow (from Australia) got her OH Doc to make her a small greenhouse or hothouse as they call it. I think it is really neat - here's a link to the thread which has links to making and using the greenhouse.

Hi Garfuin,
Just a thought but I tried to build my own greenhouse, got as far as the planning stage and realized I could buy one cheaper. It was a real blow as I pride myself on being able to recycle just about anything. I hope you can achieve this and prove me wrong. I got mine off Ebay, delivered in two days, and not bad at £67 inc. delivery
