Default DIY Bambo Frame for Netting

Hi all, I`m new here so forgive me if this is the wrong sub-forum. I`ve searched through the sub forums on the main page and can`t really see which one is best for this question so if someone wants to move this thread somewhere else thats fine with me.

I need to build a bamboo frame to go over the tops of my three raised veg beds to stop the neighbours cats using them as toilets (until my veg comes through) and to prevent our chickens obliterating them in their search for food. I`ve started building them using string to tie corners together. Its very flimsy though and I wondered if someone had any advice on making them a bit sturdier? once I`ve built the frame i`m going to put green netting over them.

Any advice gratefully received and hello everyone

hi dobsa1
welcome to the forum.
try using wire instead of string,
it might stiffen things up a bit!!
also try adding a few more up-right canes.

After many attempts of making netting cloches I've found that water piping cut into different lengths along with debris netting works a treat. I sink pieces of bamboo or metal stakes in the ground, slot the water piping over the top, cover with netting and secure with stakes. It keeps the insects out and protects the plants from wind and the filtered light helps keep down the watering Under these cloches I have kale, swede, cabbages and calebrese,I also have my carrots covered too

I have bamboo frames over my rasied beds (I seem to live in cabbage white county!!!) After numerous attempts I found the best (and cheapest) option was to use a small drill bit and drill the ends of the canes and then use cable ties through the whole to secure.

Very easy to do (honestly!) and easy to uses again and again...
