Question Another Ebay Special, Polly tunnel

I've just bought myself a polly tunnel from Ebay (don't they get around?)
My problem is, I don't have enough room to place it this year, Small plot lots in it, Can i dig up my tomatoes and replant them after sighting it or do you think i've got enough time to grow more?
I want to put tom's (obviously) and cucumbers, peppers and anything else you would like to suggest in there.
It's 10' by 6' 6" with 6' plus headroom, it cost me £67 and then I saw the same thing (from the same supplier ) go for only £56 (my comments would get me thrown off this site !!!!!)
Any help/advice would be grately recieved

hi ian
i would get that over-priced polly tunnel up
try transplanting the toms, then go and get some replacements just in case.
with the added protection from the tunnel , and the long hot summer were due you should be ok.
chilli plants will like the tunnel too!

I too bought mine off ebay, cost me £85 and so far has been brilliant. It took alot of extra bits and bobs to make it secure but well worth it - would be great to see some pics when its up

Your wish is my command, but you'll have to wait till I get back from my hols
(just four days, but can't wait!!!)
What was the extra "bits and bobs", Mark? Don't want to make any mistakes and end up reclaiming it from next door
I'm like a six yr. old waiting for santa to come
You do believe in santa don't you

Cheers..........Ian

Just a thought, would you and how would you heat a plastic polly tunnel?????

Well the day I put mine up wasnt the quitest and a light coastal wind blew it across my garden. But I had a few things knocking around the garden like an old beer style wooden table that was fallling apart and some battons of wood I bought from B&Q (were £1.98p each) also in the shed doing nothing, and some of those Iron rod/steak type things that a builder friend of mine let me have.

In a recession and already spending £85 on a glorrified roll of cling film I was very keen to recycle all the junk I was planning on getting rid of, and with this managed to secure my tunnel. My frame work was very much like a garden Gazebo, was made of metal and the pieces clipped together and although sturdy for the moment, having had many Gazebos I knew over time these tend to pop undone, so I got some black electrical tape and taped all the joins.

And then some string in places that space allowed items to grow, all I did was tie the side bars and then secured them to the frame work where I laid the wooden path just to add extra weight to the ground.

If you have the same type of tunnel then the door frame on mine needed reinforceing, I did this with a pack of 8 battons of wood for B&Q £4.??, made the door stand up right and stopped it flapping about in the wind, with zips either side when zipped up creates enough tension and is smooth. I put the battons on either side (inside & Outside) and put a screw through one batton, through the plastic and into the other batton.

I dont claim to be a builder, but just used what I could and made it up as it went along, end of February we had some right storms (im a stones throw away from the seafront) and it didnt budge, wish I could of said the same for next doors fence
But there is room for it to move about in the wind, I think if it was firmly glued to the ground the poles would most likely snap, bend or buckle....

And in answer to your Question....

Yes I do....

Brill Mark,
Just what the Dr. ordered, Mine looks exactly the same except I think mine has two doors, one at each end. You can bet I'll be using most, if not all your ideas, hope there's no copyright involved here? The idea of strengthening the door was something I was worried about, but not any more (B&Q here I come!)
I've got an old gazebo and I'm thinking I could hammer some of those posts into the ground and cable tie/gaffer tape the uprights to them.
could I use the string that's tied to the frame to grow climbers up (Toms, cucumbers etc.)?
Thanks for all your help mate, have a pint on me

Cheers ..........Ian

It was a bodge job for me, but seems to of worked, and even though its all recycled stuff it does look neat and tidy, clean and safe...lol
But yeah dont see why reuseing your gazebo poles and cable ties would be a problem, brill idea.

2 doors, oh my how posh......lol
Could kill 2 birds with one stone with the string, I used the stuff they have here at the park that they use to tie up newspapers to send back to the printers, its like a plastic type string (as not to rot when watering), very strong string, imagine you can pick it up down B&Q an other retailers cheap enough. It did cross my mind growing things that climb up string/net but as you might be able to see on my pics I secured the string at the mid way point bars as from that point up the bars arched...so a no go in my tunnel

Cant wait to see the pictures - have fun
