Default Shade netting

Hey,
I'm new to greenhouse growing. I'd like to ask if any of you use shade netting in your greenhouse and if so, how so? Do you hang it on the sides or from the roof? My greenhouse has perspex glass and an opaque plastic roof that (I think) diffuses sunlight.
I don't want to block out too much light/heat.

Thanks.

No idea on the netting but we used some Coolglass stuuf you paint on (from ebay £4.99) - its a much better temperature now and no scorch damage since.

hi
i use bubble wrap on one side of the roof due to the position of greenhouse.
being an ally framed gh , i use clips that twist into the frame to hold it.
bubble wrap also helps with insulation in the winter.
i noticed that some people here also grow sweetpea against there gh to help,
an idea ill be trying next year.

Thanks. I was thinking of trying coolglass but wasn't sure about use on perspex. I'm tying my grapevine along one outside side of the GH. I have loads of morning glory plants to put in so might try vining them along the hottest side.

Default Shade netting

I had posted a reply earlier that was somehow intercepted , perhaps because I added a link to the vendor. In any even, I use netting that I purchased from The Greenhouse Megastore. http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/S...artments/1117/ It is available in different degrees of shading. For vegetables they recommend 45%. I add it as needed, and remove it when it is not. Cloudy days, I just leave it off. Fortunately I have a deck behind and overlooking my greenhouse and I can use a telescoping pole to place and remove the netting. Also, I position it to shade only the plants that need shade. You can see the netting in the photo above the tomatoes. It is folded to allow the sun to shine on the plants in the photo. From my perspective, it works great and lasts for years.
Jack

I'm sorry Jack - it's the very keen anti spam software that blocked the link. I have added the link to your post but here it is again!

No big deal. I just thought I would pass the information for what it is worth.

With that sort of glazing I don`t believe you need shading.

I could not grow in the greenhouse without it that is for sure.

Jackb

Regarding your toms in the photo, do they remain in those tubs right through their flowering / fruit period?

Looks a great set-up and thinking of doing the same when my new greenhouse is delivered and erected.

Yes, they remain in the greenhouse all season. I expect to be picking tomatoes in a few weeks. The cucumbers are almost big enough to start picking. I have started more tomato seeds for late tomatoes. Most likely they will be planted in July and I will be picking them in November. After the tomatoes get too tall, five trusses or so, I remove the growing tips and I like to have replacement plants ready to go. I feel the younger plants, like people, have more vigor.

Matrix,
I forgot I had this recent photo that was taken a week or so ago. Now the cucumbers have reached the peak and I have started them down the other side. I guess I will have to think about making pickles soon. Love greenhouse growing.
