Default Polytunnel

Basically is polytunnel a good solution for winter growing?

If so, recommend any good sites to purchase one?

Jim

yes and no, they are cheaper than the same size greenhouse but they don't retain heat as well, the cover will need to be replaced every few years and they are easialy damaged.

firsttunnels or northernpolytunnels are the kind of thing you need if you want it to last.

I'd say no, it isn't a very good solution unless you heat it (which is expensive). The temperature falls very quickly at night compared to a greenhouse. They are much cheaper, though, which is why we got ours.

The covers need to be replaced, which is quite a nightmare, as is putting them up. Don't believe the sales booklet that says it is easy. It isn't.

On the other hand, during summer they work reasonably well, but you need to make sure you get one with a decent amount of ventilation.

Yup I tried 2 very long 10 metre ones, but they didnt seem to do much good, maybe the temp isnt stable enough, stick to a greenhouse if you ask me. Even a plastic or mini one might be worth it.

Well my plan was to use the polytunnel during the winter and have veg all year round but going by what you guys are saying, this isn't the solution for me.

Green houses aren't cheap which is a shame!

Thanks everyone, Jim
