Default Glass vs Plastic

Which is better - a glass house - or a plastic polytunnel?

What are the comparative costs?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

How do you keep pests out?

Hello

I really prefer a greenhouse. They are usually more expensive but they have lots of extra advantages which include controlling the heat better and more constant temperatures which are great for most plants

Pests are not usually a problem but they can be avoided by just keeping the greenhouse or poly tunnel clean

Thanks

Although greenhouses are more expensive, you can always get a bargain in your local paper, or on eaby (like I did). If you DO get a bargain - take photos of it first, before you dismantle it, then you can refer to them when you put it back up - my OH did this - brilliant idea!
Just keep your eye in your local paper, or on ebay, or even freecycle if you are quick - you never know!

I'm all for greenhouses. I like solid things!

As for pests, I leave them at home with their Dad

I've got a 10 x 12 PT at home and am really pleased with it. I did look at GH's but was worried about broken glass from winter gales. The PT is tucked away in a corner and the only problem I have, is, when the cats chase each other over the top of it - I can never get the hose out quick enough

Ahhhh, not a simple as that Alstar. They compliment each other really.

For the price of a reasonable 8' x 12' greenhouse you can have a 24' x 14' polytunnel but growing in them isn't the same. As Adam says the ventilation is one factor to consider, ideally you need fans to push the air around as you don't have the natural movements like in a G/house.

That said, I'm looking to get one for the Lottie to go with the 2 greenhouse that I already own

Get hold of 'Gardening under Plastic' by Bernard Salt - the bible where polytunnels are concerned....
