Default Growing on Cucumbers

I am growing Cucumbers in the greenhouse for the first time. I have read that we should remove the fruits from the first 7 nodes. This seems a little drastic? What do others do?

Hi,

I have 4 cucumber plants growing in the greenhouse now. 1 plant is about 5ft tall now and has in the region of 20-25 small cucumbers of which 6 have swollen nicely and about 5-6 inches long.

I leave all the fruit on the plant and support the lower ones when they start to increase in size.

No you don't need to remove the first seven nodes. It looks like some one made a proverb.

I grew cucumbers last year and didn't think about growing them up! I never knew they would support their own weight.

With the plants being in the greenhouse with no wind to move the plants the stems supporting the cucumbers were strong enough to take the weight. As long as they were left alone and not moved about they are fine.

I never lost a single one.
