I bought a georgeous smelling Thyme today, it is, I assume a citrus one (going by the name on the lable and the smell)
My question is, it is a veriagated one and has an area in the middle of the pot that is plain green and that doesn't smell the same. Does the same rule aply to Thyme as with other veriagated plants, that the plain growth should be removed or the whole plant will revert. On the other hand is it possibly another strain of Thyme in the same pot? If I have to remove the plain stems, can I split the plant and have one plane one veriagated or will splitting a whole plant damage the roots and kill the plant? Hmmm that was more than one question, sorry. ![]() |

You'll probably find that there are a few plants in the pot - the growers do that to make the plants look more mature than they really are I think.
If you gently knock it out of the pot, you'll see how many stems there are - my guess would be that you've got two varieties in that pot and if you untangle the roots very carefully, you'll be able to get the two plants growing separately. Regards Liz
