Default Curry Plant

At the garden centre today I couldn't resist the smell of the curry plant. It was sold as a herb but can I use it in cooking? (Don't want to poison my other half. )

Hi

Check this site out

Helichrysum italicum - Plants For A Future database report

It is edible (to a certain extent) but looks to be better for medicinal use.

Cheers

I bought a curry plant last year and I have used it for cooking. Great with potatoes and spinach. I didn't prune it back though and it got really heavy on top and bare underneath. Not sure if it is too late to prune it? But I really love it, hope you enjoy yours as much

I have been considering a Curry Plant for a while as I love the smell but held back as I was unsure of any uses.

Didn't think the curry plant had a culinary use! Got curry leaves from the "local" Indian supermarket.

Default Curry Plant

I use it all the time in my cooking, vegetable stir fry or curries, therefore it is not harmful. This is a must for Indian cookings both vegetarian and non vegetarian. It has many good qualities apart from the wonderful aroma, like
antidiabetic, antioxidant and etc...

Would this be the silvery curry plant? Curry leaves are a deep green. Plants can be "struck" from their branches, but aren't easy as I understand it.

i've tried cooking with the leaves (fresh and dried), it doesn't actually taste like 'curry' but it's still tasty imo

on the other hand if your aim is to produce curry then cumin, turmeric, chilli, coriander, ginger and garlic are good places to start.

hummm, i'm off to make thai green curry with tofu

I bought one of these last month from the garden centre when I was scouring the herb section. The label said something like it was edible and good to flavour rice with so I thought I'd give it a try. It's doing pretty well in the ground and is a great conversation starter, when you give someone a leaf to smell and ask them what it smells like they are amazed that the answer is curry. Not to be confused with the Curry Leaf plant though.

I bought a curry plant last year and I agree it smells lovely.

I researched it last year and discovered that it was not suitable for cooking with.

Maybe the sites were wrong, hopefully anyway. Think it would be yum in egg Mayo.
