Default Herbs don't look good!

As above ^^^

I have Basil, Chives and Thyme.

The Chives looked very healthy when I potted it last week. Now we've had decent weather and no frost since potting, but the ends of the Chives are starting to look dry - ie brown!

The Thyme was all nice and upstanding when potting at the same time, but it as 'wilted' albeit it doesn't look dried out.

And finally, Basil. Is this the hardest herb of all to grow? I potted this a couple of days ago and it was a very healthy looking specimen. Now its wilting and the leaves are starting to curl up as if its about to die!

I've vigilantly followed the care instructions.

And I've also just this moment had a thought!!! I used the contents of a peat free grow bag to pot them.

Any thoughts???

Default Supermarket

Were the herbs purchased in a supermarket/garden centre. As they are not used to being out side. They may need hardning off I think thats whats its called. From Marmite.

Marmite has got it spot on, the plants have been grown indoors and are now struggling. The Basil shouldn`t be outside in Scotland AT LEAST for another month.

Default Supper

I do partake in the odd Marmite sandwich with the said cocoa. Better to have a toasted sandwich off gammon , cheese ,and marmite. While eating I do a slug patrol around my grounds.6 paces and its finished .Regards Marmite getting hungry.

Much prefer a mug of Bovril myself. Without the slugs.

It's odd that you're having trouble with all three plants. Basil can be tricky to grow outside and is better suited to a greenhouse or windowsill, but chives are pretty idiot proof and grow like weeds year after year.

Quite agree on the hardiness of Chives Paul, BUT, they still need to be hardened off before going out, even more so in Scotland.

Deffinately need hardening off.

If they were bought at a supermarket, look at the packaging. Most of the larger supermarkets import from the likes of Isreal, Egypt, and other warmer countries where the herbs are force-grown.

Keep the Basil inside in the warm, in well drained light conditions and don't get the leaves wet. They hate their leaves getting wet.

As for the Chives and Thyme...just harden them off in future before planting them outside. Once their used to the climate up there, they'll generally flourish and come back year after year.

Those herbs are improving your sleep because the blood is flowing and doing a good job in the body. The brain and other vital organs are receiving oxygen.
