Hi folks,
I read a small article last week about black garlic and was curious to find out a little more if possible? To set the record straight I like the beneficial health attributes of garlic, I take it daily in odourless capsule form, but I don't care for the taste or smell of it in my food/ cooking at all. I expect I am in a very small minority to begin with, especially on a vegetable gardening forum, but I read that the black derivative was odourless, and contained far more bang for your buck, so to speak, than the traditional type we all use daily. Does anyone here buy this type, and if so is it as good as they say?? Many thanks. ![]() |

Hi!
I've been using Black Garlic for a bit now. My boys aren’t keen on ordinary garlic but have loved the taste when I’ve Black Garlic it in their bolognaise. I'm no wizz on nutrition but I believe garlic is good and Black Garlic has double the antioxidents etc. Out of curiosity I tried one of the cloves without cooking it and it had a very unusual texture at first. Once you are passed that though the flavour is amazing, it is kind of sweet with a hint of balsamic and no bad breath. I'd definately recommend it. Shell |

I rather like the taste of balsamic, especially now I know I can combine some extra flavours with a good healthy ingredient. Thank you for your reply, Shell. ![]() |

Black garlic is ordinary garlic that has been fermented. Ie. black garlic does not grow black.

The interesting thing for me will be how the product sells in comparison to it's popular cousin. I expect the price will be higher for a start! ![]() Cheers! |

I was just going to ask that question as I grow around 50 bulbs per year and had not come across it. How does one get it to go black?

Black garlic acts as the wonderful transformed product of a well known health supplement. The pungent smell and strong taste is virtually gone but the benefits remain. Black garlic contains certain sugars and amino acids.
