Hi Vicren, I grow my mint in a pot. At this time of year, its dying down I cut it down to about 2 inches and just leave it until Spring next year where it will grow again, I feed with general plant food, when it produces new shoots. Happy Gardening!

Yeah, I go along with runnerbean. The only thing I do differently is to cut the roots back a bit, in Spring and renew the compost.

I would agree, they're pretty resilient. I tend to completely forget about them but they come back, always. It's best to grow them in container because they take over, spread like there's no tomorrow.

What variety--Varieties of mint do you all grow ?
and which is your favourite ?

I have quite a few varieties including Apple, Pineapple, spanish, blackcurrant, spearmint, etc
My favourite is Apple mint lovely with new potatoes The only down side with it is it tends to get mildew in late summer

I don't know what variety of mint mine is - sorry! I went around the garden centre rubbing and smelling the leaves on all the different mint plants until I found the one that I loved.

That's what I always do with herbs. It's how I came to buy a curry plant - the smell is fabulous - but when I got home and read my book I discovered the curry plant is poisonous!

I have two and one of them is definitely Apple mint after checking out the website BuyHerbs mentioned in the other thread. The 2nd one is probably just Garden Mint, too many that look similar.

Yes we too love boiling apple mint with new potatoes. It always makes the house smell lovely. Unfortunately I've never tried making mint sauce or jelly before (tend to buy them, shocking!!), about time that I do someday.
