Though I'd share this year's herb successes and failures:
Basil grown indoors, some from seed and some bought growing from b&q. The ready growing basil was doing well but has bolted, whereas the basil from seed is now huge and strong with loads of large leaves. Rosemary - I had a 4 year old rosemary plant that I dug up and moved so I sowed some seeds in a seed tray and nothing happened. I left them there as it was the same seed tray I had leeks in and after about 2 months one of the of of the rosemary seeds sprouted! It's still quite tiny but doing well. I sowed then rest of the seeds in to a smallish plant pot when then first lot didn't germinate, cos I didn't know what else to do with them and again nothing for months, left the pot in my propagator and just kept watering it, the suddenly 4 seedlings have popped up after about 2 months again! Tarragon - the only tarragon seeds I could find was Russian tarragon so I thought I'd give it a go. It's odd, it doesn't look like the tarragon i've bought in the supermarket and it tastes like apple! Coriander , lemon coriander and dill, all grew from seed ok and then bolted earlier this month. Curly parsley -seeds 2 years out of date plated straight into flower bed in garden -growing like mad! Sage grown from seed, some indoors in a pot some sown straight into flower bed, indoors stuff is doing fine, quite big leaves, outdoor stuff much slower and being eaten by something. Peppermint and spearmint, both bought as growing plants, both doing fab! Oregano grown indoors from seed, doing really well. So all in all I'm quite pleased. |
