Smile My little garden

ALL pictures are clickable to make them bigger

My carrots. started off in modules and planted out in 2 lots of 9. They are "purple haze hybrid"

this picture shows my border containing Mangetout at the back, Tomatoes in front of them with pepper in between and at the front I have planted some marrigolds to attract insects. The net the peas are growing up came from the outside of the water butt we bought. Nothing goes to waste here. The mangetout still have a long way before they reach the top of the fence so I am expecting quite a good crop.

My little gem lettuce to the front with sweet peas climbing the trellis. Sweet peas are one of my favourite flowers and I always find a little space for them. The plant to the left of the picture as you look at it is a cone flower, can't for the life of me remember its proper name.

Some of my many pots. The middle one is my mini carrots, "little fingers". The other 2 are petit pois "Waverex"

This is my greenhouse (very small I know) it has my Cantaloupe melons in it "hearts of gold" There are 3 plants in the one pot.

a close up of my Mangetout with my next crop already growing fast.

A close up of my tomatoes. Can't wait to try them. They are "Yellow pear/cherry bell" Tiny little yellow plum toms.

A view from my daughters bedroom window showing how verry small my plot really is. I think I've packed a lot in though and it's all doing well as you can see.

I have more photos but no time right now (darned kids do insist on eating every day) so I will upload more later, if I'm not boring anyone. Even if I am I will still uplaod them as I feel proud of my little plot so you will have to bare with me.

My mange tout are all but finnished as are my petit pois and miniature carrots. I have had some lovely lettuces and replanted some seedlings to replace them, they are doing nicely too. Tomatoes are just turning yellow (they are a miniature plum, yellow variety)

I have loads of tiny cucumbers, around an inch long, and little peppers. I have yet to harvest my purple carrots, looking forward to those. And my potatoes grown in a big yellow tub are nearly ready. I Grew them from left over supermarket spuds so wasn't sure how they would do but the signs are good. I have some King Edwards and some marris piper.

I wish I had planted more peas and mini carrots though, didn't realise they would finnish this early, I could have had another crop for later in the year. Something to remember for next year.

In amongst the veg I have marigolds, Dahlias, cone flowers, sweet peas and Fushias all growing really well and in flower.

Overall I am very pleased with the results.

That is a very rewarding first year. Only problem I find with peas is that you just don't get enough peas. I've tried different varieties but still looking for one to give me a bumper crop. French beans are good cos you can pick them all summer.

Thanks for the encouragement.

The inch long cucumbers I mentioned, well I was looking today and found a very large one hiding itself away under some leaves, that is about 6 inches long and there are a few others that are around 3 inches long too. So a nice suprise for me there.

Cookie, I have found the same problem with my peas. There isn't enough for a good meal. But I like to eat them fresh so sprinkle them in salads or as myself and my son and daughter found, it is nice to wander around the garden with a handful of pods and eat them as you go. Yum, couldn't get fresher than that. Oh and my dog loves them too so he is usually found wandering around behind us waiting for a share.
