Default Green Manure

Hi

I've cleared a part of the garden which had completely overgrown with shrubs and a few small confiers. I was hoping next season to put in potatos in this area.

I have been reading about green manure and was wondering if that would be best to grow there until the next potato season. I had read about using Dwarf French Beans as green manure but on checking the seed packets I've missed the sowing time- is there any other suitable green manure or should I be preparing the soil another way?

Edwin Tuckers are vey good for green manure seeds and they are not expensive. They have red clover as HB suggests.

i would take the opposite view i would dig in lots of mushroom compost add large quantities of slug killer and cover with weed suppressant until time to plant spuds

i am not a particularly organic gardener but others are and this may not be for you it will however give you a 2-3 week start over open ground culture

Default Green Manure

I am trying a green manure mix from our local garden centre because I read in a book 'Tottering in My Garden' by Midge Keeble about it. It is a north american book, but one that is great. Hopefully I will also get a good compost base from the same approach. Any more suggestions about green manure greatful.
