Hi!
Here is a pic of a spinach plant I picked up at a garden show a couple of months back- All I know is that it is spinach but not the actual name of the variety. The purple flowers can also be used in salads and I can't get over the height it is getting! I've planted in the borders as it is such a stunning plant and my sister is keen to get one as it looks so good as well as so tasty!! All I know is that I should pinch the end of the plant and it should reseed but just incase it doesn't or if I dont get the right time to pinch top I'd really appreciate if anyone could help me out with the exact name...... |

That is an unusual spinach plant I have never seen one like that before. The New Zealand spinach has that shaped leaf but the edges are not serrated. Is it spinach or did they mix up the plants at the show?

.....I found out the name!
Its a tree spinach Chenopodium gigantium or also know as C. gigantium 'Magentaspreen' i'm really glad I found it (I managed to track down the lady I bought it from at the garden show) It flowers and reseeds itself- and for anyone interested in purchasing the plant- I def recommend it looks stunning in garden with purple flowers and is edible too! |

I bet you are relieved Jooles!!!!
It's also known as Giant Goosefoot and is used in salads or lightly braised. It can grow to 6 foot tall no wonder it is called Tree Spinach. Wild Garden Seed: Magentaspreen (Giant Goosefoot)
