does planting garlic simply involve sowing some supermarket-bought cloves?

Hi Telecaster and welcome! You can plant supermarket garlic cloves and I do know that people get a crop of garlic from supermarket bought garlic but it is not really recommended as the garlic from the supermarket could have been grown abroad so will not be suitable to our climate or it can carry disease. You can buy garlic bulbs mail order from most of the seed merchants. Here is a link to Thompson and Morgan.

Garlic (Onions, Garlic and Potatoes)

Interestingly I've never thought about growing my own pumpkins, that would be really cool. What time of year would someone want to start on them to have them by October?
