Default My cucumbers

I have 2 types of cucumber growing in my greenhouse -both of which I have aquired as seedlings. One is a smooth variety and is doing really well and producing lots of delicious cucumbers. The other is a bumpy climber and has lots of tiny 1" cucumbers that don't seem to be getting any bigger. Any ideas what i am doing wrong?

The only thing you`ve done wrong is grow a ridge cucumber in the greenhouse. The spikey one is the outdoor one. The ridge cucumber needs to be pollinated to produce edible fruits, BUT the smooth skinned one does not want to be pollinated. If you are getting a good crop of edible cucs from the smooth skinned one, I, personally, would sacrifice the other one.

Hi Vegswap,

I have the spiky cucumbers that you have mentioned. I have grown them in my greenhouse for the last 2 years with no problems. I can't remember the name of them, however the skin is quite waxy. They are an outdoor variety, but mine have never done really well outdoors hence keeping them in the greenhouse. I have never hand pollinated them or anything, however i have always kept my greenhouse windows open and they have probably been pollinated by bees coming into my greenhouse. Try hand pollinating them and leave them. If you persevere with them, they are a stunning cucumber to have and the flavour is amazing.

Hope that helps
