Just got home went in my back garden to find my elderberry tree had been totally chopped down and the remains dumped in my garden and next doors lawn had been cut, went knocking on her door to see why the hell it had been cut down but no answer so threw all the branches and stuff that had been dumped in my garden (on top of a pumpkin plant that's now dead). 10 mins later she comes out the back hey hows you bla bla so I let rip and she reckons it wasn't her and she didn't ask them to do it, she got people in to do the lawn she says sorry and disappears 2 mins later comes back with a bloke from across the road was him that done it all I get from him is “im sorry mate” bla bla bla still don't have a clue why the hell it was done. there was maybe three little branches going into her garden but that's no excuse could have easy just cut them off.
It had just flowered and was looking forward to trying some elderberry/flower recipes, it was the only established thing in my garden and now it just feels and looks bare im absolutely gutted

Hi Pacey, go foraging for elderberry flowers and later the berries. There are always loads growing in the hedgerows here and I bet there will be where you live. Do you live near the canal because the canal tow path is usually a good place to forage!

Oh my gosh I can't believe that happened, that was seriously out of order! Neighbours can be something else.

How terribly rude!

I know it it probably not much consilation now, but unless they have dug up the roots, and pored over weedkiller, then it will grow back. We have quite a few elderberry bushes/trees in our garden in places where they shouldn't be and I cut them right back to the ground from time to time.

I've not managed to kill one yet.

Hi Pacey, there was an elderberry tree on one of our allotment plots and I was determined to make jam from the berries. I carefully cut loads of elderberry fruit trusses and took them home......................then found they were full of earwigs!! Earwigs eat veggie plants so the tree was cut down the next day!
